Interactive ACCUBLOC Functional Model for Polybloc – Heat Recovery Made Visible

How can the functionality of a complex industrial system be explained clearly within just a few moments at a trade show? For exactly this purpose, MTC Modellbau® developed and manufactured a high-quality interactive ACCUBLOC functional model for Polybloc, demonstrating the principle of regenerative heat recovery in a clear and engaging way.

The presentation model combines precision model making, mechanical movements, servo control, addressable LED technology and programmed light simulations. This allows both the mechanical operation of the system and the normally invisible airflow and thermal processes to be visualized.

The result is a technical industrial model and trade show model that communicates complex processes in an understandable, visual and interactive way.

Functional Model for Industrial Heat Recovery

Industrial HVAC systems for heating, ventilation and air conditioning are based on technical and thermodynamic processes that are often difficult to understand from the outside.

At trade shows and customer presentations, however, there is usually very little time to explain how a technical system works.

The ACCUBLOC functional model developed for Polybloc was therefore designed to allow visitors to understand the principle of regenerative heat recovery directly through the model.

Several elements are combined:

⚙️ Mechanical movements
💨 Visualized airflow
🔴 Warm air
🔵 Cold air
🌡️ Dynamic visualization of the heat storage block
💡 Programmed LED lighting
🎛️ Interactive control

This transforms a conventional presentation model into an interactive technical exhibit.

Mechanical Functions with Servo Control

One of the key features of the ACCUBLOC model is the realistic representation of the system’s moving dampers.

For this purpose, MTC Modellbau® developed a special mechanism in which several dampers are moved simultaneously by a central servo motor and a linked lever mechanism.

This makes it possible to demonstrate different operating states of the real system. The individual components move in a mechanically synchronized sequence, making the operating principle immediately understandable.

An integrated push button also allows the speed of the movement cycle to be adjusted.

The combination of model making, mechanics and electronic control enables a realistic simulation without unnecessarily simplifying the actual functionality.

Visualizing Airflow with Acrylic and LED Technology

One of the particular challenges in developing the functional model was making something visible that normally cannot be seen: airflow.

To achieve this, transparent acrylic panels with laser-engraved airflow lines were integrated into the corresponding air ducts of the model.

Concealed addressable LEDs are installed along the edges of the acrylic panels. The light is directed into the transparent material, illuminating the engraved airflow lines.

Programmed light animations create a dynamic flow effect.

🔵 Blue light represents cold air.
🔴 Red light represents warm air.

The LED animation is synchronized with the respective operating mode of the model. This allows the visualization to follow the corresponding airflow path through the system.

Visitors can therefore understand within seconds how air moves through the system.

Dynamic Visualization of the ACCUBLOC Heat Storage Block

At the heart of the system is the ACCUBLOC heat storage block. Its role within the heat recovery process also needed to be clearly understandable in the model.

For this reason, the central storage block was equipped with its own dynamic lighting system.

Integrated NeoPixel LEDs change their lighting depending on the respective operating state. This visually demonstrates how the storage block absorbs heat and subsequently transfers it back to the airflow.

The lighting is therefore much more than a visual effect. It performs a specific explanatory function and helps visitors understand the entire heat recovery process.

Intelligent Combination of Mechanics and LED Control

A modern functional model should provide more than just a scaled representation of a product.

For the ACCUBLOC project, different technical components were therefore combined into a single presentation system:

  • Synchronously controlled mechanical dampers
  • Servo motor and lever mechanism
  • Laser-engraved acrylic panels
  • Addressable LED lighting
  • NeoPixel LEDs integrated into the storage block
  • Programmed light and airflow effects
  • Interactive push-button control
  • Synchronized mechanical and electronic sequences

The mechanics and lighting work together to clearly demonstrate the different operating states of the system.

Technical Functional Models for Trade Shows and Presentations

Interactive industrial models and functional models are particularly suitable for products and systems whose technical operation is difficult to see or explain using the original equipment alone.

Typical applications include machinery and production systems, energy systems, HVAC systems, heat recovery systems, conveyor technology, automation solutions, infrastructure projects and complex industrial processes.

By integrating LED technology, electronics, motors, servos, sensors, push buttons and touchscreen controls, real functions and processes can be simulated in an engaging and understandable way.

A technical model therefore becomes an effective communication tool for trade shows, showrooms, customer meetings, training sessions and corporate presentations.
